Transparency and Anti-Corruption Organizations Bulgaria

Description

Transparency International Bulgaria, formally the Association Transparency without Borders, is the Bulgarian national chapter of the global anti-corruption coalition Transparency International. The coalition operates through more than 90 national chapters and an international secretariat in Berlin. The Bulgarian association was founded in June 1998 by prominent figures from across public life.

Its mission is to bring together state institutions, local authorities, the private sector and the media to carry out systemic reforms and concrete action against the spread of corruption in Bulgaria. Its main priority is initiating and implementing methods and programmes to counter corruption at national and regional level. It works to mobilise civil society, business, government and academic structures to reduce corruption nationally, regionally and internationally.

Its stated activities include research initiatives on corruption carried out with public figures, scholars and experts, and systematically gathering and distributing analytical information to state institutions, business, civic organisations and the media. It also develops, tests and runs civic initiatives and projects aimed at reducing corruption. It cooperates long term with central and local authorities, public administration experts and like-minded nongovernmental organisations to build a stable network of anti-corruption coalitions.

The organization describes having worked for more than 26 years to develop civil society and strengthen anti-corruption capacity in public institutions, the judiciary, local and national administration, and business. It lists dozens of projects, indices and publications produced over more than fifteen years. Transparency International Bulgaria is based in Sofia.
