The Ramblers

Description

The Ramblers is a British charity that works to protect public rights of way and access to the countryside for walkers.

It campaigns to keep the countryside and coast open to everyone, defends footpaths and green spaces, and pushes to record historic paths before they are lost. Local groups and volunteers organise walks and maintain footpaths such as the Pennine Way and Offa’s Dyke. The organisation also runs Walking for Health schemes to encourage people with health conditions to get outdoors.

It is governed by a board of trustees and organised through local groups and regional areas across Great Britain, with devolved structures for Scotland and Wales. It was founded in 1931 as the National Council of Ramblers’ Federations and took the name the Ramblers’ Association from 1935. It operates in England, Scotland and Wales.
