Description

World Resources Institute, known as WRI, is an independent research organization working to improve people’s lives, protect and restore nature, and stabilize the climate.

It was founded in 1982 in Washington, D.C. Its staff work on the ground in more than a dozen focus countries and with partners in over 50 nations, covering food, land and water, energy, and cities.

WRI’s approach is research, action and scaling: it produces independent, peer-reviewed data and analysis, partners locally with communities, companies and government agencies to pilot solutions, and then works to expand successful approaches nationally and globally. It built tools such as Global Forest Watch, a platform tracking deforestation using satellite data, and it developed the Greenhouse Gas Protocol used to measure emissions.

WRI serves governments, businesses, non-profits and civil society, offering research, technical assistance, training and convening. It has offices in the United States, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Mexico, among others, and works internationally on climate, forests, water, energy, food and urban development.
