Environmental Organizations Canada

Description

Green Action Centre is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Winnipeg that serves the province of Manitoba.

It was founded on February 14, 1985, originally to promote recycling and reduce landfill waste, and was formerly known as the Recycling Council of Manitoba and later Resource Conservation Manitoba before taking its current name in 2010. It is a registered charity governed by an elected community board, with programs supported by donations, foundation and government grants, and sponsorships.

It works with households, workplaces, schools and communities to promote greener living. Its programs cover green commuting, composting and waste reduction, sustainable living and resource conservation, including active transportation to school, composting workshops and training, classroom environmental presentations, and workplace commuter programs. It also runs seasonal events such as Car Free Day, the Commuter Challenge and Waste Reduction Week, and develops environmental policy positions on issues such as waste, pesticides, climate change and land use.

Green Action Centre is a member of the Manitoba Eco-Network and Green Communities Canada.
