The Climate Mobilization
Description
The Climate Mobilization is a grassroots environmental advocacy group pushing for large-scale political action against climate change.
It was founded on the idea that the climate crisis requires a national mobilization on the scale of a wartime economic effort. Early work centered on a pledge asking political candidates to commit to rapid cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, and it built support for climate emergency declarations, passing more than two hundred of them in communities across the country. It has also organized public actions and helped shape political party platform language on climate mobilization.
More recently the group has shifted toward a strategy it calls Climate Survival, building local capacity around food, energy, water, land and care so communities can meet basic needs during climate and economic disruption. Its programs train people in community organizing, climate policy, coalition building, and racial and economic justice, and it has run workshops, peer exchanges and network-building among grassroots groups. It has also supported local campaigns on tenant protections, transit funding and renters’ access to electric vehicle charging.
The Climate Mobilization was founded in 2015.
