Whistleblower Organizations France

Description

The Syndicat de la magistrature is a French trade union of judges and magistrates, based in Paris. It is led by an elected president.

It organizes its activities around a congress that adopts motions on a range of subjects. These include criminal justice, the defence of civil liberties, justice for minors, civil and social justice, international justice, the independence of the judiciary, public justice service, and the training and recruitment of magistrates.

It communicates through press statements, position papers, guides and booklets, and a review called Délibérée, alongside older publications. It also takes part in public events and campaigns.

These include demonstrations and conferences against proposed criminal-justice legislation, colloquia on subjects such as states of emergency, and coalitions on topics like drug policy and the risks of artificial intelligence.

It has expressed solidarity with a judge facing pressure abroad in the name of the rule of law, and it reports on its activities to the European association of judges, MEDEL. Members join the union through a subscription.
