Project On Government Oversight, known as POGO, is a nonpartisan independent watchdog founded in 1981. It investigates, exposes and champions reforms on systemic corruption, abuse of power and waste in the United States federal government. It began as a small watchdog focused on the Pentagon and has since expanded its mission to cover the entire federal government, working toward what it describes as a more effective, accountable and equitable democracy.

POGO’s work spans several issue areas, including government accountability, checks and balances, civil and human rights, corruption and abuse of power, and national security policy. Its activities include original investigations, commentaries, reports and analyses, testimony and public comments submitted to policymakers, policy letters and fact sheets, civic engagement and advocacy campaigns, resources for congressional oversight staff, and resources for whistleblowers.

The organization states that it engages directly with policymakers in Washington to push for reform, and that when it speaks, government leaders listen. It also accepts tips from the public about corruption.
