Environmental Organizations Switzerland

Description

The Swiss Association for Transport and Environment, known as VCS Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz, campaigns for a human-friendly and sustainable transport policy in Switzerland. It was founded in 1979. It is based in Bern.

It supports a balanced mix of transport modes, including public rail, tram and bus transport, walking and cycling, private car use, and freight by rail and truck. Its goals include the economical use of energy, promoting environmentally friendly cars, limiting excessive road construction, and shifting freight from road to rail. It takes part in political initiatives and consultations to support public transport and improve road safety.

The organization has around 100,000 members and is the largest Swiss association dedicated to sustainable mobility. It runs local sections active in their regions. For its members it also offers services such as eco-friendly motor insurance and roadside assistance.
