Description

Stichting Publeaks is a Dutch foundation that lets people share sensitive information with journalists safely and anonymously.

Its goal is to strengthen the media’s ability to hold power to account, by making it easier to share information with the press and by offering a secure platform for doing so. People who submit a tip log in through the Tor browser and receive a unique code that protects their identity. They choose for themselves which participating media outlets get access to their tip and any documents, photos or other material, and can keep communicating with journalists anonymously afterward.

Publeaks works with many of the largest newspapers and media organisations in the Netherlands, including national and regional titles and broadcasters. The foundation has no access to the content of the documents shared and plays no role in the contact between a journalist and a source. Several published investigations, on topics such as tax administration and government data security, have relied on information submitted through the platform.
