Maison des Lanceurs d'Alerte

Maison des Lanceurs d’Alerte, or MLA, is a French association created on 22 October 2018. It was formed by a collective of seventeen organizations, including unions and NGOs, to support and protect whistleblowers. It provides legal, psychological, media, financial and social support to people who report serious wrongdoing. This includes corruption, tax fraud, mass surveillance, misuse of personal data, dangerous medicines, environmental harm, institutional violence and animal mistreatment, and it campaigns to strengthen their legal protections.

Funded mainly by donations, it operates independently. It has supported more than 450 whistleblowers since its founding, building expertise that fed into French law n°2022-401 of 21 March 2022, known as the Waserman law. This law improved whistleblower protection by amending the Sapin II law. Its platform has received more than a thousand reports since 2018.

MLA is based in Paris and organized as an association under the 1901 law. Its member organizations include Transparency International France, Anticor, the SNJ journalists’ union, France Nature Environnement, Sciences Citoyennes, Sherpa and several other unions and civil-society groups. It also runs the Alerte à la Une prize, which rewards investigative journalism produced thanks to whistleblowers’ disclosures.
