Small Woods Association

Description

Small Woods Association promotes sustainable living built around a wood-based economy and the management of small woodlands.

It runs courses and events on sustainable woodland management, coppicing, woodland crafts and related activities, aimed at building skills in working with small woods. Its work also includes woodland volunteering projects, family sessions and community events open to the wider public. It operates the Green Wood Centre as its headquarters, set among the woods of the Ironbridge Gorge near Coalbrookdale in Shropshire.

The Green Wood Centre includes the Woodland Hall, a venue with sweet chestnut pillars and an energy efficient design that is available for hire, alongside Embers Cafe. The site also holds a retail outlet for coppice products, a woodland craft area and a woodland camp, with year-round access to woodland walks around the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

The organisation also has a base at Dyfi Eco Parc, near Machynlleth train station, shared with other forestry organisations.
