Reporter ohne Grenzen (Reporters Without Borders) Germany is the German section of the international organization Reporters sans frontières, headquartered in Paris. It was founded in Berlin in 1994. It works worldwide for press freedom and the free flow of information.
The organization documents and draws attention to attacks on journalists. It provides concrete help to media workers in danger. It campaigns against censorship, surveillance and repression of the press. It tracks press freedom around the world, including through a country ranking and a press freedom barometer. It carries out political advocacy, campaigns and alliance work together with partner organizations.
The German section is made up of staff at its Berlin office, an executive board and a board of trustees. It is internationally recognized as a non-governmental organization, and holds consultative status with the Council of Europe, the United Nations Human Rights Council and UNESCO. It relies on membership and donations for support.
