Faktograf
Description
Faktograf.hr is a Croatian fact-checking media outlet. It was the first in Croatia to specialise in checking the factual accuracy of claims made by politicians and other public figures. It is published by Faktograf, a non-profit media association based in Zagreb. Faktograf launched in 2015 as a joint project of the Croatian Journalists’ Association and Gong, and became an independent association in November 2021.
The outlet is a member of the International Fact-Checking Network and the European Fact-Checking Standards Network, and it co-founded the regional SEE Check network. Since April 2019 it has taken part in Meta’s Third Party Fact-Checking programme across Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Since May 2024 it has also taken part in TikTok’s global fact-checking programme.
Faktograf rates statements by politicians and public officials for factual accuracy. Separately, its Razotkriveno section reviews claims spreading in digital media and on social networks, drawing on official sources, scientific research, civil society and international organisation data, and expert opinion. It also runs a Climate portal launched in 2024, and produces in-depth investigative pieces on political and social issues.
The organisation follows a code of ethics based on the IFCN and EFCSN codes, the Croatian Journalists’ Code of Honour and the Journalism Trust Initiative. Its editorial statute guarantees independence from funders and political parties. Faktograf operates in Croatia. It has been funded through grants including the National Endowment for Democracy, TechSoup, the US State Department and its Zagreb embassy, the European Union, Google’s Digital News Initiative, the Balkan Trust for Democracy, and Meta’s and TikTok’s fact-checking programmes, and it publishes annual financial reports.
