Rainforest Foundation UK

Description

Rainforest Foundation UK is a non-profit organisation that works on human rights and environmental protection to tackle deforestation in Africa and South America.

It supports Indigenous peoples and other forest-dependent communities in securing land rights, using community-led mapping, legal and policy advocacy, and forest monitoring to detect and report illegal logging. It campaigns internationally on industrial logging, agricultural expansion, climate change and nature conservation, and has criticised carbon offset schemes and large-scale palm oil development. The foundation works in close partnership with local and Indigenous organisations rather than running projects on its own.

It is part of a wider Rainforest Foundation network with sister organisations in the United States and Norway. It currently funds and collaborates on work in Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Peru and Kenya.

The organisation traces its founding to 1989, when it began working with the Kayapo people of Brazil to protect their lands and culture.
