People's Trust for Endangered Species

People’s Trust for Endangered Species, known as PTES, is a UK conservation charity that supports projects to protect species at risk of extinction. It was founded in 1977 and is based in London. Its work combines scientific research, monitoring, education and habitat restoration, in Britain and around the world.

PTES funds conservation and research through grant schemes such as Conservation Insight Grants, UK mammal grants and Conservation Internship Awards. In the UK it focuses on mammals including hazel dormice, hedgehogs and water voles, and on habitats such as traditional orchards, wood pasture and hedgerows. It runs national public-participation surveys, including the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme, Living with Mammals, the Traditional Orchard Survey and the National Water Vole Monitoring Programme.

The charity runs the Hedgehog Street campaign with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, engaging volunteer Hedgehog Champions to make gardens more hedgehog friendly. PTES owns and manages two nature reserves, at Briddlesford on the Isle of Wight and Rough Hill in Worcestershire. It works with scientists, conservationists, landowners, government bodies and the public, and is a member of the IUCN and Wildlife and Countryside Link.
