Conservation International

Description

Conservation International is a global organization that works to protect nature for the benefit of people.

Since 1987 it has helped protect 13 million square kilometers of land and sea, an area the size of the United States and Mexico combined. It works across three main areas: climate, removing carbon from the atmosphere while helping communities adapt; oceans, creating marine protected areas and reshaping aquatic industries; and biodiversity, protecting and restoring ecosystems while creating jobs. Its approach rests on science, partnership and field demonstration, and centres on human rights, gender equality and building sustainable local livelihoods.

The organization maintains offices in 35 countries and supports conservation projects in more than 100 countries, with marine work spanning all five oceans and land-based work focused on the tropics. Ninety-seven percent of its program staff come from the regions where they work. It partners with roughly 2,000 organizations worldwide, including governments, companies, communities and nonprofits, and employs more than 1,600 people across six continents.
