Panthera

Description

Panthera is a charitable organization devoted to conserving the world’s wild cats and the ecosystems they live in.

Its team of biologists, data scientists, law enforcement experts and advocates studies and protects the seven big cat species, cheetahs, jaguars, leopards, lions, pumas, snow leopards and tigers, and it also runs targeted strategies for threatened small cats such as fishing cats, ocelots and Andean cats. It works with local and international NGOs, scientific institutions, corporate partners and government agencies to design and carry out species conservation strategies across whole ranges. Its work includes anti-poaching patrols, wildlife corridors connecting cat populations, community programs to reduce conflict between cats and people, and efforts against the illegal wildlife trade. It also funds field conservationists through grant programs such as the Kaplan Graduate Awards and the Sabin Snow Leopard Grant Program.

Panthera runs projects across the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, including jaguar corridors in Mesoamerica and South America, puma projects in the United States and Chile, tiger corridors and reserves in Asia, snow leopard programs in Central Asia, and lion and leopard projects across Africa.

Panthera was founded in 2006. It is headquartered in New York, with additional offices in Europe, Mesoamerica, South America, Africa, the UAE and Asia.
