Description

Oštro is a centre for investigative journalism in the Adriatic region, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is an independent, non-profit digital outlet focused on investigative and data journalism in the public interest. It verifies facts, exposes corruption and monitors centres of power.

Its mission is to champion the right to know as a fundamental human right. It works to spread journalistic knowledge and train future journalists, helping preserve quality journalism in Slovenian media.

Oštro describes itself as not for sale, uncompromising, radically transparent, free of advertising and beholden to no one. It will not reveal sources and uses methods to protect their confidentiality. It is financed through grants and its own income, and welcomes donations for its journalism.

The outlet runs Razkrinkavanje, a fact-checking project, and offers a SecureDrop channel for people who want to share confidential information anonymously.

It is a partner centre of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Network and a member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network, GFMD and the Reference network, and a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network’s code. It is also a member of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network and a partner of the European and Adriatic Digital Media Observatory projects, collaborating with counterparts in Italy, Hungary and Croatia.
