Live Ocean
Description
Live Ocean is a New Zealand ocean conservation charity founded by Olympic sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
It partners with scientists, innovators and communicators to scale up science, innovation and outreach for a healthy ocean. Supported projects include tracking the tākoketai black petrel, studying Hector’s and Māui dolphins, and a citizen science project called Citizens of the Sea, in which sailors collect data on marine biodiversity. It has also supported monitoring and restoration of the New Zealand sea lion and an online video series on the Hauraki Gulf, and it runs Live Ocean Racing, a sailing team that promotes ocean conservation.
Live Ocean relies on public donations, which go directly to the marine conservation projects it supports. It operates in New Zealand.
