Kea Conservation Trust

Description

Kea Conservation Trust is a New Zealand charitable trust working to protect the kea, an alpine parrot found only in the South Island.

Its main activities are research into wild kea populations and their habitats, advocacy and education, support for captive kea welfare standards, and community engagement. It runs the Kea Database, a citizen science platform where the public can report kea sightings, and holds biennial Kea Summits bringing together researchers and conservationists. It partners with community groups, iwi, the Department of Conservation, tourism operators, farming communities, schools and zoos, and relies on volunteers for field, education and scientific work.

The Trust was incorporated in 2006 and registered as a charity later that year. It operates in New Zealand.
