Description

Instytut Spraw Publicznych (the Institute of Public Affairs) is a leading Polish think tank and independent center for political research and analysis, founded in 1995. Its mission is to contribute to informed public debate on key issues in Polish, European and global policy. Its main research areas cover European policy, social policy, civil society, migration and climate policy.

The Institute aims to serve citizens, society and the state through its work. It wants Polish citizens to be educated, aware of their rights and duties, co-responsible and engaged in public life. It wants Polish society to be open, tolerant, inclusive, active, solidary, prosperous and European. It wants the Polish state to be democratic, deliberative, governed by the rule of law, modern, efficient, and oriented toward its citizens and the international community.

It pursues these goals in several ways. It raises the quality of public debate so that it is substantive and focused on solving problems and building knowledge. It introduces new topics into public debate. It creates mechanisms that let citizens and various groups take part in public debate and other forms of public life. It also inspires legal and institutional change to improve the quality of public policy in Poland.

The Institute operates as a foundation. It has a management board, a foundation council and a programme council. Its team includes analysts, experts and coordinators working across its research programmes.
