The Institution of Environmental Sciences is a charitable organisation and global professional membership body for environmental scientists, based in the United Kingdom.

It unites people and specialists from diverse disciplines around the goal of accelerating the transition to a sustainable society. It supports a diverse, interdisciplinary network of environmental scientists worldwide at every stage of their education and careers, helping them connect, develop, progress and inspire. It promotes environmental protection and conservation, and carries out related education and analysis of scientific research.

IES trains and awards chartered environmentalist and chartered scientist qualifications, and provides administration for the Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education, which accredits university programmes, and for the Institute of Air Quality Management. It maintains the environmental SCIENTIST journal and publishes reports and guidance for professionals in the environmental science sector. Its strong ties with academia, government and the professions let it influence evidence-based, transformative change.

The IES was founded following an initiative by academic Dr John Rose during meetings held in 1971 and 1972 at the Royal Society in London, chaired by Lord Burntwood. It has more than 6,000 members, drawn from 51 countries, at various stages of their education and careers. Most of its income comes from individual member subscriptions, supplemented by paid-for events and training, degree accreditation, advertising and sponsorship.
