The Association Luxembourgeoise des Journalistes Professionnels, ALJP, describes itself as the largest representative of the free press in Luxembourg. It advocates for the rights of all media professionals. As a permanent member of the Luxembourg Press Council, it represents its members’ interests at the political level, with a particular focus on the right of access to information and on improving journalists’ working conditions.

On an individual level, ALJP acts as a network of young and experienced journalists who actively support its members. This support covers not only legal advice or help covering lawyer’s fees, but any challenge media professionals encounter in their work, including threats, data leaks and doxxing. It describes itself as a politically neutral, non-profit association. It represents Luxembourg within the European and international journalists’ federations EFJ and IFJ, of which it is a founding member.

Services offered to members include legal support for professional journalists, financial support such as help with lawyer’s fees, and active participation in the Press Council. They also include defence of professional journalists’ interests, scholarships for further training, and organisation of conferences, meetings and trips. Other services are advice for students and those starting out in the profession, participation in European and international journalists’ federations, and issuance of the international press card, for which an application can only be made through ALJP.
