Environmental Justice Foundation

Description

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is an international organization that works to protect the natural world and defend the human rights of people who depend on it. It was founded in London in 2000 by Steve Trent and Juliette Williams and became a registered charity in 2001. It holds that environmental destruction and human injustice are closely linked and that lasting solutions must address both together.

EJF has country offices in Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Liberia, the Philippines, Senegal, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK. Its campaigning has covered illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, hazardous pesticide use, cotton production, shrimp farming, wildlife trafficking and climate refugees.

EJF trains communities in producer countries to investigate, record and expose environmental abuses, and helps them campaign for solutions. It works in partnership with affected communities, civil society, governments and international institutions to deliver research, advocacy and legal reform. It places particular emphasis on the power of film to document evidence and build campaigning messages that reach policymakers, businesses and consumers.
