Environment America
Description
Environment America is a federation of state-based environmental advocacy organizations working across the United States.
It advocates for clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife, open spaces and a livable climate. Its network of 30 state groups combines research, public education, advocacy and litigation. Staff include researchers, advocates, attorneys and organizers who build coalitions among businesses, farmers, health workers and community members.
The organization publishes research reports on topics such as renewable energy, global warming, water pollution and fuel efficiency, and issues an annual scorecard rating members of Congress on environmental votes. It works with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., and with local groups in states across the country. It separated from the state Public Interest Research Groups in 2007 to form a dedicated national environmental advocacy program.
Environment America is part of the Public Interest Network, a group of allied organizations working toward social change. It has a sister organization, Environment America Research and Policy Center, that carries out tax-deductible research and educational work.
