Environmental Organizations United States

Description

Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving wetlands and associated habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife and people. It was founded in 1937 during the Dust Bowl by a group of sportsmen concerned about declining waterfowl populations, and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

The organization is a grassroots, volunteer-based conservation group whose members are conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts living mainly in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It works through partnerships with private individuals, landowners, government agencies and scientific organizations to restore and manage wetland habitats, and it also advocates for government policies that protect wetlands and the environment. Chapters and affiliated organizations operate in Canada, Mexico, Latin America, New Zealand and Australia.

Ducks Unlimited has conserved at least 15 million acres of waterfowl habitat across North America. It commits at least 80 percent of its resources to its conservation mission, funded through memberships, donations, sponsorships and thousands of grassroots fundraising events each year.
