Canadian Youth Climate Coalition

Description

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, known as CYCC, is a nonprofit youth organization in Canada that works to make climate change a priority societal issue. It brings together various youth groups, including the Canadian Federation of Students, the Canadian Labour Congress and the Sierra Youth Coalition. It is part of the wider Global Youth Climate Movement internationally.

The coalition was formed in September 2006, when 48 youth organizations from across Canada met to discuss climate change. It acts as a pressure group encouraging politicians to take action on climate change, and organized a petition, the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition Declaration, calling on the government to act.

From 2007 to 2011 CYCC organized youth delegations to United Nations Climate Change Conferences to represent Canadian youth. It also ran the PowerShift conferences and Power Summer training camps, teaching young people popular education, campaign planning and organizing skills. Its campaigns invited members of parliament to endorse demands for climate justice and a just transition to a green economy.
