Chicago Wilderness Alliance

Description

Chicago Wilderness Alliance is a regional alliance of conservation organizations working around the southern shores of Lake Michigan.

It brings together more than 330 partner organizations, including nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, universities and municipalities, along with thousands of individuals. Together they pursue landscape-scale conservation across Southeast Wisconsin, Northeast Illinois, Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan. It began in 1996 as the Chicago Region Biodiversity Council, formed by organizations seeking to restore the region’s biodiversity.

The Alliance is volunteer-led, drawing staff, board members and experts from its partner organizations to work on shared conservation goals at a regional scale. It runs Green Vision Initiative teams, hosts cafes and webinars for conservation practitioners, and organizes a biennial Congress gathering for people across the region. It shares funding opportunities, job postings and training resources, and issues action alerts on conservation issues. Its aim is a region where people and nature can thrive together.
