Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust
Description
Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, known as BTLT, is a volunteer-run land conservation organization based in Brunswick, Maine, funded by its members.
It conserves and stewards vital natural areas, supports a local food system, and runs inclusive education and recreation programs that connect people with the natural world. Its work covers the towns of Brunswick, Topsham and Bowdoin, where it owns dozens of conservation properties, maintains public access trails, and has helped create town-owned parks and preserves. It has also built agricultural initiatives such as a farmers market and a community garden, engages in advocacy on conservation issues, and is one of eighty land trusts in Maine.
The trust was founded in 1985 and has conserved more than 3,200 acres of land, with over 24 miles of public trails. In 2022 it merged with the Cathance River Education Alliance, which greatly expanded its educational offerings, including nature-based field trips and summer camp.
