World Land Trust, known as WLT, is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats.

WLT was founded in 1989 to buy land for conservation. It does not own or manage land itself; instead it raises funds for partner organisations in more than 30 countries who hold and steward the land locally, always in consultation with local communities. It has helped save over one million hectares directly, with a further 1.3 million hectares co-funded.

Its programmes include buying land, funding rangers through Keepers of the Wild, planting trees, and offsetting emissions through its Carbon Balanced programme. Funding comes from individual donors, corporate supporters, and charitable trusts and foundations, channelled into ongoing programmes, specific projects and periodic appeals.

Projects supported by WLT partners span Africa, Asia, and Central and South America, protecting threatened habitats such as rainforest, and species including elephants, orangutans and cheetahs. The trust also works to provide local communities with sustainable livelihoods, ecosystem services and healthcare support tied to conservation of their land.
