Description

Wildlife Conservation Society Canada is a conservation organization that saves wildlife and wild places in Canada through science and conservation action.

It is the Canadian affiliate of the Wildlife Conservation Society, incorporated in Canada in 2004, though it operates independently while keeping close ties to WCS programs in more than sixty countries. It uses field-based scientific research and policy work to address threats such as climate change, resource development and habitat fragmentation. Its scientists study species including woodland caribou, wolverine, Canada lynx, lake trout and American bison.

It runs conservation projects across several key regions of Canada, including the Arctic, Northern Appalachians, Northern Ontario, the Northern Boreal Mountains, the Southern Rocky Mountains and Nahanni National Park. It provides science to decision-makers to support land-use planning, protected-area design and species recovery, and often partners with Indigenous communities and other organizations. Its head office is in Toronto, with regional offices in Whitehorse, Thunder Bay and Kaslo.
