Whaleman Foundation
Description
The Whaleman Foundation is a non-profit research, education, conservation and wildlife film organization dedicated to preserving the ocean world.
Its main work is producing films and public service announcements about dolphins, whales and porpoises, and using them to educate decision-makers and the public. It has presented its films to the United Nations, the US Congress and the International Whaling Commission, and its footage has aired on major international news networks. Past campaigns helped stop a large salt plant near a whale sanctuary in Mexico, contributed to a ban on a harmful sonar system, and supported placing Southern resident orcas on the endangered species list.
Through its Save the Whales Again! campaign, it works to end whaling by Japan, Norway and Iceland, to stop coastal dolphin drive hunts, and to push for regulation of ocean noise pollution. It also supports long-term field research on North Pacific humpback whales in Hawaii and on gray whales in Mexico’s San Ignacio Lagoon, and it has advocated for marine mammal protections and habitat conservation in Hawaii and Alaska.
The foundation is based in Lahaina, Hawaii, in the United States, and it works internationally on whale, dolphin and porpoise conservation.
