Agroforestry Research Trust
Description
The Agroforestry Research Trust is a British charity that researches and teaches agroforestry, the growing of trees, shrubs and perennial crops together.
It runs academic and practical research projects, maintains demonstration forest gardens and trial grounds in Devon, and offers courses and tours on agroforestry practice. It sells plants, seeds and publications, including a quarterly journal, and this self-generated income helps fund its work alongside grants and donations. Its forest garden near Dartington uses ground cover plants and nitrogen-fixing species to create a self-sustaining, low-input growing system.
Current projects include trials of unusual fruit, nut and timber species, and a second nursery and demonstration site near Totnes. The Trust was founded in 1992 and is based in Devon, in the United Kingdom.
