Description

Vereinigung Deutscher Wissenschaftler e.V. (VDW) is a German association founded in 1959 in Berlin by prominent physicists. It networks scientists from all academic disciplines who reflect critically on the responsibility that scientific research and technological development carry. Its members take part actively in societal debate, chiefly on peace, climate, biodiversity and economic questions, contributing their specialized expertise.

It operates as a registered nonprofit association, entered in the Vereinsregister of the Amtsgericht Bonn, with its office in Berlin-Mitte. It is chaired by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Beisiegel and Prof. Dr. Götz Neuneck, with Dr. Maria Reinisch as managing director. Two board members are jointly authorized to represent the association legally.

It organizes itself into subject-specific working groups, called Studiengruppen, and has a branch for early-career researchers called Junge VDW. Membership is open to anyone interested. The association is financed through donations.
