Utah Native Plant Society

Description

The Utah Native Plant Society is a nonprofit dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, conservation and responsible use of native plants.

It focuses on the native plant and plant communities found in Utah and the Intermountain West. Its goal is to foster public recognition of the state’s diverse flora as a natural treasure to be valued and protected. It advocates the use of local, native plants in landscaping and revegetation projects, and works for the preservation of endangered and threatened plant species and native ecosystems.

Since 1982, its newsletter the Sego Lily has been its primary publication, focused on rare plants and the horticulture of native species. The society has run a grant-in-aid program supporting student researchers in botanical studies, and it hosts rare plant conferences, in recent years together with Red Butte Garden. It also led the creation of native plant heritage gardens, often with educational institutions, and helped produce the Utah Rare Plant Guide.

The organization was founded in 1978 and works in Utah.
