Environmental Organizations Germany

Description

Global Nature Fund is an international foundation for nature and environmental protection, based in Germany.

It runs nature and environmental conservation projects worldwide, working directly with local people and combining environmental protection with poverty reduction. Its work covers forest protection, clean drinking water access, reforestation, protection of water bodies, and advising companies on biodiversity and sustainable supply chains. It builds and takes part in international networks of partner organizations that carry out projects on the ground. It works from three locations in Germany, in Radolfzell, Bonn and Berlin.

According to the English Wikipedia article, the foundation was established in 1998 as a private non-profit foundation and is headquartered in Radolfzell. It sponsors the Living Lakes Network and each year, on World Wetlands Day, names a water body as the Threatened Lake of the Year to draw attention to lakes at risk around the world. In 2004 it signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ramsar Convention. Its governing board is elected for four-year terms by the federal board of Deutsche Umwelthilfe.
