UK Environmental Law Association

Description

The UK Environmental Law Association, UKELA, is a charity dedicated to improving environmental law in the United Kingdom.

It works to strengthen how environmental law is implemented, and it builds understanding and awareness of the subject among the public. It brings together lawyers and non-lawyers who share an interest in environmental law, under the slogan making the law work for a better environment. It organises conferences, lectures and seminars, and works with the UK Parliament on proposed changes to environmental legislation. It publishes e-law, a bi-monthly electronic journal for members, together with reports and consultation responses on environmental law topics.

The association is registered as a charity in England, and it was founded in 1988. It is run by a council of around 20 individuals, including five members of an executive committee, and it includes regional groups and working parties that focus on specific aspects of environmental law. It has about 800 members drawn from across the legal profession and beyond. It also runs a separate website, Law and Your Environment, offering a plain guide to environmental law for the public.
