Description
Zeleni Osijek is a nonprofit citizens’ association for nature and environment protection based in Osijek, Croatia, founded in 1995. It works to activate citizens in protecting nature and the environment and to improve quality of life through advocacy and sustainable development. The association is independent and nonpartisan.
Its main activities are environmental protection, public advocacy, and encouraging citizen participation in decision-making processes. It promotes sustainable development through lectures, public presentations, exhibitions, round tables, conferences and printed and video materials. It also works on ecotourism and preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the Slavonia and Baranja region.
The association’s main project is the Eco centre Zlatna Greda, near the Kopački rit nature park. There it runs schools in nature, hiking trips through wetlands and forests, boat rides on the Danube, birdwatching and traditional cooking demonstrations. Zeleni Osijek has received several awards for its work, including a 2013 charter from the Republic of Croatia for its contribution to protecting nature along the Danube.
