Description

Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research is a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization that cares for native injured, orphaned and oiled wild birds.

Its Wild Bird Clinic provides medical care, housing and diets to affected birds under federal and state permits, handling more than two thousand birds a year. Staff and volunteers aim to return the birds to the wild, while also promoting stewardship of native wildlife through education and research. The clinic is one of the largest of its kind in the United States.

Tri-State also trains and maintains a staff dedicated to responding to wildlife harmed by oil spills anywhere in the world, a role it has carried out since 1976. It led the wildlife rehabilitation response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and has responded to spills near Spain, France, South Africa and the Galapagos Islands. The organization helped draft federal best-practice guidance for migratory bird care during oil spill response, and its staff publish research and provide workshops and training for other organizations and agencies.

Founded in 1976, Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research is based in Newark, Delaware.
