Transparency and Anti-Corruption Organizations Brazil

Description

Transparência Brasil is a Brazilian organisation that has worked for more than 25 years to strengthen democracy by fighting the misuse of public money and combating corruption. It uses public data to produce analyses and diagnoses that reveal failures in how the state manages public resources. It says its work contributed to more than 1,800 news reports across the country in 2025.

The organisation focuses on five areas: transparency within political parties, accountability of the state and its justice system, and governance and technology in public procurement, including artificial intelligence and surveillance systems. It also focuses on the quality and traceability of public spending, including budget amendments and public contracts, and on access to information through effective implementation of Brazil’s freedom-of-information law.

Its stated mission is to strengthen transparency and social oversight to ensure efficient, high-quality public spending and integrity in public institutions.

Its method combines producing sophisticated data analyses, engaging the press and public bodies with findings and recommendations, and monitoring the implementation of its recommendations. It presses oversight bodies to act and, as a last resort, pursues strategic litigation in the courts.

Transparência Brasil also takes part in civil-society coalitions and sits on public advisory councils at different levels of government. There, it contributes to improving public policy, transparency and integrity.
