The Energy and Resources Institute

Description

The Energy and Resources Institute, known as TERI, is an independent not-for-profit research organisation based in New Delhi, India, working on energy, environment, climate change and sustainable development.

It was established in 1974 as the Tata Energy Research Institute and took its current name in 2003 as its work broadened. TERI is powered by a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, economists and sociologists engaged in action-oriented research. It has regional centres across India, including Gurugram, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Mumbai, Goa, Nainital and Hyderabad, plus a global presence in Japan, North America, Europe and South East Asia.

TERI’s work spans clean energy, sustainable agriculture, water security, land resource management, air pollution and low-emission transport. It developed and administers the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment, India’s national rating system for green buildings. It advises governments, businesses and civil society and takes part in international climate negotiations and sustainability frameworks.

TERI also runs education programmes for young people, including school engagement activities, and publishes research through TERI Press, including the annual TERI Energy Data Directory and Yearbook. Its TERI School of Advanced Studies offers advanced academic study in related fields.
