Environmental Organizations United States

Description

Sycamore Land Trust is a nonprofit conservation organization that preserves land, restores habitat, and connects people to nature in southern Indiana. It was founded in 1990 and serves 26 counties across the region. It protects over 150 properties totaling more than 11,800 acres.

The trust protects land by owning and caring for nature preserves and by holding conservation easements on privately owned properties, acquired through donations, purchases, and bargain sales. Its stewardship work includes habitat restoration projects and building and maintaining trails for free public use. It runs an Environmental Education Program that connects people of all ages to nature through guided hikes and outdoor learning.

Sycamore is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission and is a supporting member of the Indiana Land Protection Alliance, a network of land trusts and conservation partners across the state. It is governed by a board of directors and supported by an advisory board.
