SustainableEnergy

Description

SustainableEnergy is a Danish membership-based non-profit working for renewable energy and a resource-conscious energy policy. It was founded in 1975, growing out of a popular movement for renewable energy with ties to the Danish anti-nuclear movement, and was called the Danish Organisation for Renewable Energy until 2010.

In Denmark it lobbies on energy law and regulation, publishes a bi-monthly magazine, runs a website, and organises seminars on wind power, solar energy, biogas and energy efficiency. It cooperates with schools through the Schools Energy Forum and with other Danish environmental groups such as the Danish 92-Group.

Internationally, SustainableEnergy runs programmes in Africa and Asia, including current work in Kenya and Mozambique through local partner consortia, and has worked in Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia and South Africa. It is a founding member of INFORSE, the International Network for Sustainable Energy, and belongs to CAN-Europe and the European ECO-Forum.

The organisation has around 2,500 members, including individuals, local energy and environment offices, schools and companies. Its main decisions are made at an annual General Assembly and by a Board that meets every two months.
