Society for the Environment

Description

The Society for the Environment is an umbrella body that licenses professional registrations for environmental practitioners.

It operates under a Royal Charter and works in partnership with its Member Bodies, a range of professional and learned institutions. It attained Royal Chartered status on 6 May 2004 and issued its first Chartered Environmentalist licences in September 2004. It is based in London and works in the United Kingdom, with registrants working worldwide.

The Society is the custodian of three professional registrations: Chartered Environmentalist, Registered Environmental Practitioner and Registered Environmental Technician. More than 9,000 environmental professionals now hold one of its registrations, and it has recognised over 70 individuals as Honorary Fellows. Its constituent bodies together represent several hundred thousand environmental practitioners across many professions, from architecture and engineering to ecology, forestry and waste management.

The Society’s mission is to champion excellence in environmental professionalism, working in partnership to empower people who shape and influence a sustainable future. It coordinates and represents the views of the environmental professions on climate change and sustainable development, and provides an independent forum for debate among its members.
