Rainforest Partnership
Description
Rainforest Partnership is an environmental organization that works to protect standing rainforests by centering the rights and needs of Indigenous and local communities.
Founded in 2007 and based in Austin, Texas, it runs conservation projects on the ground with rainforest communities in Ecuador and Peru, helping them build sustainable economic alternatives to deforestation such as shade-grown crops, sustainable harvesting and ecotourism. It also works in Mexico and Colombia. At the same time, it educates communities in the United States about the role rainforests play in protecting the climate, linking rainforest communities with partners abroad.
The organization convenes global initiatives to widen its reach, including World Rainforest Day, launched in 2017 to build awareness and collective action for tropical rainforests, and Films for the Forest, a short film competition raising awareness of deforestation. It also organized the Rainforest Collective, bringing together rainforest-focused organizations, communities and industries worldwide, and Gen Z for the Trees, a youth-led initiative on rainforest protection. Its scientists carry out biodiversity fieldwork and species research in Peru and elsewhere as part of this conservation work.
