Sierra Club Canada
Description
Sierra Club Canada Foundation is a Canadian environmental organization that empowers people to protect, restore and enjoy healthy and safe ecosystems.
It is a national registered charity made up of a national office and chapters in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, Quebec and the Prairies, plus a nationwide youth chapter, Sierra Youth. It champions climate solutions and a rapid transition to clean energy, works to protect nature and endangered species, and campaigns for environmental and social justice. It is a grassroots, volunteer-led, democratic organization, with a board of directors elected by its members at an annual general meeting.
It is legally separate from Sierra Club BC and the Sierra Club in the United States, though the three sometimes work together on shared causes. It was legally incorporated as a Canadian organization in 1971. Its chapters run local initiatives such as air quality monitoring and tree planting in Ontario, wetland and grassland conservation in the Prairies, and campaigns against fossil fuel projects in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Its Wild Child program provides outdoor education for children in several provinces.
