Description

Clean Water Action is a grassroots environmental advocacy organization working to protect water, health and community quality of life.

It organizes grassroots groups and coalitions and runs campaigns on environmental and community health problems, and it works to get environmental candidates elected at all levels of government. Its campaigns aim to remove health-harming toxics from everyday products, protect water from drilling and fracking, and push for clean air, clean water and clean energy. It has also brought lawsuits, including one against a state environmental agency over fracking wastewater discharge, and has supported legislation restricting plastic microbeads and single-use plastic bags.

Staff work across the country on issues including water, clean energy, toxic chemicals and environmental justice. The organization has members and supporters in all 50 states.

Clean Water Action was founded in 1972, during the campaign to pass the Clean Water Act. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and operates programs nationally, regionally and locally through a network of offices.
