Forest & Bird, formally the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand, is a conservation charity protecting the country’s native plants, animals and wild places.

Its more than 4,000 volunteers and 43 local branches run over 200 restoration projects and manage 38 nature reserves. Conservation staff and environmental lawyers advocate for nature in Parliament, council chambers and the courts. The organisation runs the Kiwi Conservation Club for children and Forest & Bird Youth for teenagers and young adults, and publishes the magazines Forest & Bird and Wild Things.

Founded in 1923 as the Native Bird Protection Society, it later took its current name and has worked on conservation issues across New Zealand for over a century, including campaigns to protect native forests, rivers and marine life. It is supported by more than 130,000 New Zealanders through membership, donations, grants and bequests.
