René Cassin

Description

René Cassin is a UK-based charitable human rights organization that draws on Jewish teachings, values and historical experience. It was established in 2000, growing out of the Consultative Council of Jewish Organisations, and is named after René Cassin, a principal drafter of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It holds special consultative status with the United Nations.

The organization promotes and protects universal human rights through advocacy, policy analysis, public campaigning and education. It works on issues connected to Jewish historical experience, including asylum and indefinite detention, genocide prevention, discrimination against Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, hate speech and modern slavery. It engages with the United Nations Human Rights Council and with UK policymakers on these issues.

René Cassin also runs education programmes, including a year-long Fellowship Programme and a Human Rights Ambassador Programme, that train Jewish professionals, students and young people as human rights advocates. It is primarily active in the United Kingdom, with supporters across Europe, particularly in France.
