Pink Armenia

Description

Pink Armenia is a human rights organization defending the rights of LGBT+ people in Armenia. It was founded in 2007 and is based in Yerevan. It was created by members of the LGBT+ community and works to serve and support that community’s needs. It advocates for stronger protection of LGBT+ people’s human rights and for changes in public policy on LGBT+ issues.

The organization offers legal aid, psychological counselling, social work support and a helpline to people whose rights have been violated because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. It also raises public awareness on sexual and reproductive health, and on HIV prevention and safe sexual behaviour. It promotes equality, diversity and respect for people facing discrimination.

Pink Armenia represents the interests of LGBT+ people before local, national and international bodies. It takes part in dialogue with the government of Armenia and has offered recommendations on anti-discrimination law. It is a member of ILGA and ILGA-Europe and of the Eastern European Coalition for LGBT+ Equality, and partners with local and international organizations working on sexual health, human rights, discrimination and gender issues. Staff and members also take part in civic, political and cultural initiatives connected to Armenia’s democratic development.
